The study found a positive correlation between artificial intelligence use and perceived academic achievement, and recommended academic-special artificial intelligence tools among undergraduates as panacea for more positive academic achievement in a 21st century highly driven by technology.
Abstract
In a world where artificial intelligence (AI) has become part social architecture, there is much desire for truism as humans continually interact with machine through technology. Academics on the other hand thrives on empiricism and scientific method but what becomes the case when machine begins to engage in what is exclusively for human reserve? Therefore, this study investigates the influence of artificial intelligence on undergraduates’ academic achievement in Kwara State. The study adopted the quantitative research approach through survey, questionnaire was administered to gather data from the respondents who are undergraduates in selected Universities. It was found out that QuillBot and ChatGPT are the most used artificial intelligence tools among the undergraduates. Factor analysis show five motives for using artificial intelligence for academic purpose. These are collaborative motive, resourcing motive, academic enhancement motive, research motive, and academic engagement motive. The study found a positive correlation between artificial intelligence use and perceived academic achievement. The study concluded by recommending academic-special artificial intelligence tools among undergraduates as panacea for more positive academic achievement in a 21st century highly driven by technology. Future researches could adopt the longitudinal research method, in order to give room for comparison of undergraduates’ academic achievement across divides.
