Understanding and Mitigating Latency Variability of Latency-Critical Applications

This dissertation characterizes latency variability of interactive services, shows how to measure it and how to mitigate its effect on end-to-end latency without sacrificing system capacity, and describes and evaluates a practical policy, LÆDGE, that approximates the theoretical lower bound and achieves as much as half of its hedging potential.
