Abstract

The digitalization of the financial industry has resulted in a geometric increase in the need of smart and transparent credit risk evaluation systems. Conventional loan issuance systems tend to be based on inflexible statistical models, which are not easy to interpret and are not flexible to different applicant characteristics. We introduce a hybrid construct in this piece of work, which combines machine learning-based frameworks and deep learning algorithms to make loan risk assessment more transparent and more accurate. The suggested system takes advantage of supervised learning models in determining the risk categories based on features, and the deep-learning architectures exploit non-linear relationships among complex financial data. The framework is built using explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) modules in order to make the end-users interpret the result and thus overcome the black-box arguments that can be often linked to sophisticated predictive models. It has been experimentally proven that the system is more accurate, precise, and recalls than traditional methods and is also transparent and fair in terms of decision-making. The approach suggested provides a solution at scale to the banking ecosystems of the modern era that enables trust, efficiency, and responsible application of AI to financial services.
