Abstract

This study aims to investigate the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the workforce in the tourism sector, suggest measures that managers and employees can utilize to mitigate the adverse effects of AI, and predict the future of employment in tourism. ChatGPT was used as an interviewer. Eight questions were posed during the interviews using the ChatGPT question screen (https://chat.openai.com/chat). AI has the capacity to automate certain tasks, transform certain job roles, offer fresh opportunities, enhance customer experiences, and stimulate innovation within the tourism industry. Despite the potential for AI, there are still areas in tourism where human interaction and expertise are considered crucial, and tourism managers can use this as an advantage to compete in the industry. According to ChatGPT, AI will create fifteen new tourism jobs. Although using AI in tourism businesses can benefit employees, it can also have adverse effects. Awareness of AI reduces employees' concerns while enhancing their organizational commitment, workplace well-being, job satisfaction, and performance. Tourism managers should arrange training programs for AI awareness, encourage employees, increase employee well-being, reduce work pressure and create a supportive work environment. Additionally, employees should keep themselves up-to-date with their digital knowledge and skills, proactively adapting to AI.
