TLDR

The potential and role of the MAX messenger in the import substitution process are analyzed: the platform is presented as an example of a technologically independent solution capable of providing secure communication for government and corporate users; however, its success will depend on scaling functionality and attracting a mass audience.

Abstract

The article provides a systematic review of modern messengers as multifunctional digital ecosystems integrating communication channels, media content, and payment instruments. Both international platforms (WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, Threema, WeChat) and domestic developments (VK Messenger, MAX) are analyzed, and their key technical and economic parameters are considered. The text describes the classification of messengers by their main components: network architecture, security, and monetization models. Based on the proposed criteria, a comparative analysis of the leading platforms was carried out, revealing differences in approaches: mass services (Telegram, WeChat) use transport encryption and advertising models, while niche services (Signal, Threema) are more focused on privacy and end-to-end encryption. Monetization models are considered separately, ranging from advertising and premium subscriptions to B2B solutions and ecosystem commissions. It was revealed that the choice of an encryption model directly affects user trust and the platform's profit opportunities. The MAX messenger is considered in detail as a practical example of domestic development: its architecture is based on the Signal Protocol, with mandatory end-to-end encryption of all chats by default, full compliance with Russian legislation, data storage on servers in the Russian Federation, and integration with the VK ecosystem, including cloud services and mini-applications. In conclusion, the potential and role of the MAX messenger in the import substitution process are analyzed: the platform is presented as an example of a technologically independent solution capable of providing secure communication for government and corporate users; however, its success will depend on scaling functionality and attracting a mass audience.
