Abstract
Attendance management is an essential activity in educational institutions, organizations, and workplaces.Traditional
attendance systems such as manual registers and signature-based methods are time-consuming, inefficient, and prone to humanerrors. These systems also allow issues like proxy attendance, datamanipulation, andinaccuraterecord maintenance. With theadvancement of artificial intelligence, machinelearning, andcomputervision technologies, automated attendance systems havebecomemoreefficientandreliable.Facerecognition technologyisoneofthemostwidelyused biometric techniques for identificationand authentication becauseit doesnot requirephysical contactandcan operate in real-time environments. This research proposesa Smart Attendance System using Face Recognition technology to automate the process of attendance recording. The proposedsystem uses a camera tocaptureimagesofindividualsandapplies facedetectionandrecognitionalgorithmstoidentify them. Thesystem consists of multiple stages including image acquisition, face detection, feature extraction, and face recognition. Machinelearning and deep learning algorithms are used to analyse facial features and compare them with the images stored in thedatabase. Once a match is identified, the system automatically records the attendance along with the date and time in acentralized database. The implementation of this system utilizes tools such as Python programming language, OpenCV library, and machine learningalgorithms for accurate face recognition. The system is capable of identifying multiple individuals simultaneouslyand markingattendance in real time without human intervention. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed system achieves highaccuracy and significantly reduces the chances of proxy attendanceandmanualerrors.Thesmartattendance system offers severaladvantages including improved efficiency, reliable attendance tracking, and reduced administrative workload. Furthermore, thesystem can be integrated with institutional databases and cloud storage for better data management and accessibility. Thisresearch highlights the potential of face recognition technology in developing intelligent attendance systemsthatcanbeeffectivelydeployed in schools, colleges, offices, and other organizations for automated and secure attendance management
