Abstract

The suggested design 5L-HSMLI (Hexagon-structured) multi-level inverter uses a switched-capacitor based cell, in which the capacitors’ built-in charging mechanisms provide automatic voltage balancing. In addition to providing voltage boosting capabilities, the topology generates bipolar voltage levels without the need for an end-side H-bridge inverter. In contrast to conventional and cutting-edge MLIs, this permits the employment of low-voltage semiconductor devices and shows decreases in both circuit components and total switch blocking voltage. The research shows that the suggested inverter successfully reduces the number of circuit components and the switch voltage stress, in contrast to conventional and other recently published topologies. Additionally, a thorough investigation is conducted into the suggested inverter’s working principle, capacitor sizing, power loss analysis. In both steady-state and dynamic operation scenarios, the suggested topology exhibits dependable performance. The suggested topology’s steady-state and dynamic performances are initially verified using MATLAB/Simulink environment, and then further supported by Opal-RT real time emulator findings.
