Abstract
This research work presents a novel, secure, and efficient RFID-enabled bus ticketing system using ESP32 microcontrollers, RFID technology, and GPS. The proposed system streamlines the ticketing process by enabling contactless fare collection without physical tickets through RFID-enabled cards. These cards are scanned at boarding to ensure fast and accurate ticket validation. The integration of GPS allows real-time bus location tracking, improving route monitoring and providing passengers with live updates. The system also includes encrypted communication to secure transaction data and permits real-time observation of passenger numbers, fare collection, and bus locations. Experimental results show a significant improvement, with a 35 % increase in operational efficiency and a 25 % reduction in human error compared to traditional methods, saves environment through contactless ticketing enhancing the overall passenger experience. The proposed RFID system achieves ∼92% accuracy, surpassing traditional methods at ∼85%. The proposed system is able to identify the traffic areas 99 % and helps in immediate action to increase the bus frequency in such areas.
