Role of Shakthi Yaojane (Free Bus Scheme) in Women Empowerment: A Sociological study

Shakti Yojana is an important social scheme implemented by the Government of Karnataka in 2023 with the aim of women empowerment. In recent times, women have been facing difficulties in their daily lives due to lack of transport facilities and financial burden, and financial background has become a major obstacle in getting free access to education, employment, and health services. “Shakti Yojana” was formulated with the aim of providing a system, so that women can use public transport independently, safely and free of cost. This will help reduce the financial burden of women and also promote gender equality and empowerment in the society. The introduction of Shakti Yojana is an empowering, financially supported public service objective. Through this, women can participate more actively in society.

The Government of Karnataka has launched Shakti Yojana to provide free public transport to women in the state of Karnataka - Shakti was launched on June 01, 2023 and it is open to all women who are residents of the state of Karnataka. To avail the benefits of Shakti Yojana, women have to apply for a Shakti Smart Card. They can apply for a Seva Sindhu Portal Card.
