RISCs and parallel processors drive multiprocessing innovations

The onslaught of novel computer architectures ranging from parallel processing to reduced-instruction-set computers (RISC) continued unabated this past year and because of the possibilities offered by VLSI chips, more computer manufacturers took the plunge into innovative designs.
