Recent Research Trend Analysis in Geophysical Exploration Focused on Seismic Exploration

Geophysical exploration, which is used in energy resource exploration, has evolved into a radically developed technology, and is rapidly changing the 4th industry landscape. Recently, extensive research using artificial intelligence (AI) has been conducted, and digital transformation is underway in the energy resource industry. In this study, the overall research trends of the latest geophysical explorations were analyzed with a focus on seismic exploration. A few examples of AI technologies used in seismic exploration have been introduced. For the analysis of the research trends, the papers published in domestic and international journals related to geophysical exploration were analyzed according to the exploration method, year, and keyword. The R programming language was used for the analysis. The results showed that the most actively performed studies on seismic exploration utilized geophysical exploration methods and within each method a study on inversion was included. Amongst the studies related to seismic exploration, the usage of AI technology has been prevalent within the various subject matters, such as inversion, signal processing, interpolation, and interpretation.
