Abstract

Crime prediction and analysis is a methodical means of spotting and comprehending criminal activity. This method helps police take preventive measures by forecasting crime-prone areas and visualizing where crime is likely to happen. By applying data mining technologies, we are able to derive important but so far unrecognized trends and conclusions from unstructured crime data. The collection and study of historic crime data enable the detection of hotspots, the anticipation of future crime patterns, and an understanding of criminal behaviour. Crime represents a serious threat to the well-being of society and impacts public safety, economic growth, and a country's general reputation. Conventional criminal analysis techniques sometimes involve manual effort, which could be wasteful and time-consuming. Nonetheless, the developments in machine learning and data analysis have allowed crime prediction to become more accurate and data-based. These methods assist law enforcement organizations in enhancing their strategic planning, crime mapping, and assessment of risk. This paper examines different forms of crime analysis, such as spatial, temporal, and behavioural analysis, as well as discussing crime prediction models based on data mining methods such as association rule mining, clustering, and classification. These methods may also be blended with geographic information systems (GIS) and predictive analytics to assist crime prevention agencies to better anticipate crimes, utilize their resources effectively, and protect the public. The method suggested here presents a sound foundation for assessing, identifying, and forecasting criminal behavior, which renders society smarter and safer.
