Abstract
The article discusses the right of children as patients to obtain information about their health and the obligation of medical personnel to maintain medical confidentiality. The author emphasizes that the right to information is a fundamental element of patient autonomy and a prerequisite for informed consent to treatment. In the case of minors, the obligation to provide information depends on the age and maturity of the child – they obtain the full right to information and co-decision on treatment after reaching the age of 16. Particular emphasis is placed on the need to provide information in a manner that is understandable and adapted to the child’s cognitive abilities. The article also draws attention to the importance of medical confidentiality as a guarantee of privacy and trust between the patient and staff. The author points out that exceptions to the duty of confidentiality are strictly defined by law and may only arise from the best interests of the patient or the public interest.
