Abstract
Implementation of EV transportation depends largely on charging infrastructure, named Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) for full or top-up charging needs. Adequate charging infrastructure at workplace, residence and public charging availability with smart connectivity are necessary to overcome range anxiety of private vehicle owners as well as EV fleet operators. Unlike fuel stations, charging station solutions are to be developed separately to suit different user groups. In this paper, we present the design and implementation of a standalone EVSE for localized applications and networked EVSE targeting long range transportation considering Indian standards and economic conditions. A communication and user interface complying with Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) was designed and developed for AC chargers. The EVSE communication user interface is designed to handle three single phase users simultaneously. Cost effective hardware and software solutions with real time capabilities are considered in the system design.
