Nutrient loading alters the performance of key nutrient exchange mutualisms.

Using meta-analyses, this work shows a near ubiquitous decoupling in mutualism performance across terrestrial and marine environments in which phototrophs benefit from enrichment at the expense of their heterotrophic partners.
