Modern Cyber Security Attacks, Detection Strategies, and Countermeasures Procedures

The advance in technology and computer programs, along with the fast system inter-communication, helped society evolve and achieve important discoveries, making it possible for many things to be at our disposal with just a few clicks. Private and public companies, institutions, and enterprises of all sizes tend to migrate their services to different platforms to provide more reliable and high-quality products that aim to create a better user experience. However, these amazing things are not enticing to just the regular users but also to the attackers who expect to make new targets and potential victims. As not all systems are created or designed with the security aspect in mind, new opportunities are opening for cyber-criminals to exploit, cause damage, earn money, or steal data. In this paper, we provided our survey on the most recent cyber-attack types, infection vectors, threat groups, malware development tendencies, and many other things of interest that describe the threat landscape for the 2021-2022 period. Furthermore, we presented some contemporary countermeasures and detection strategies that help to defend against the most prevalent cyber threats that can pose a risk to the systems.
