Abstract

ABSTRACTIn this work we discuss teaching methodologies used in the Calculus Discipline, which generally present a more complex and abstract approach, linked to a traditional and content-based pedagogical practice, in addition to the gaps that engineering students present in pre-calculus mathematical concepts. Based on this, we aim to discuss a proposal for a self-study pedagogical practice for students entering engineering courses, with the aim of supporting the learning of initial concepts of the Calculus discipline through the mediation of an active methodology with the support of technologies teaching through activities on functions that seek to relate theory and practice through contextualized situations, in addition to establishing different forms of representation, including algebraic and graphical. After the development of self-study, it is expected that the results for teaching functions, properly contextualized and organized with the active methodology, will be significant and enable the application of this concept in solving problems in the area of Engineering. Keywords: Mathematics Education.
