Abstract

The article dwells upon the internal monologue as an artistic and linguistic technique in French fiction. Our complex approach represents the correlation of internal monologue with adjacent or interchangeable concepts inner speech, inner voice, verbal stream of consciousness, intrapersonal communication, inner discourse in different researchers’ understanding as well as the linguopragmatic potential of the internal monologue that has its expression by various linguistic and graphic means. We have used the methods of structural-semantic, contextual and functional analysis while having studied some literary sources. The obtained results proved that the internal monologue in French fiction prose is conditioned by factor of subjectivity; it is often subordinate to the character’s position and point of view rather than the narrator’s ones if not to introspect into the complicated structure of the author’s transformations or reincarnations and implementing the factor of economy. The introduction of internal monologue into literary communication has its own compositional structure, language and graphic content, emotional and evaluative colouring. It forms a for monologue.
