In a retrospective cohort study involving 76 patients who received kidney transplant, conducted from 16 March 2020 to 6 September 2021, 16 adult patients [ exact ages not stated; sexes not stated ] were described who exhibited vaccine failure following administration of AZD-1222, elasomeran or tozinameran for immunisation against COVID-19. Out of these 16 patients, 3 patients additionally exhibited lack of efficacy during off-label treatment with ceftriaxone, unspecified steroids, tocilizumab or azithromycin or during treatment with remdesivir for COVID-19 and 3 patients developed COVID-19 during immunosuppressive therapy with tacrolimus and unspecified antimetabolites [ routes, dosages and duration of treatments to reactions onsets not stated ]. The patients, who had a history of kidney transplant, received elasomeran [Moderna COVID-19-vaccine] (14 patients), tozinameran [Pizer COVID-19-vaccine] (1 patient) or AZD-1222[Vaxzevria] (1 patient) for immunisation against COVID-19. All 16 patients were concomitantly receiving immunosuppressive therapy with unspecified agent (12 patients), unspecified antimetabolite (1 patient) and unspecified antimetabolite and tacrolimus (3 patients). However, even after vaccination, the patients developed symptoms of COVID-19. Hence, vaccine failure for respective COVID-19 vaccine was reported in all the patients. Also, COVID-19 was attributed to their respective immunosuppressive therapy. Subsequently, all patients presented to the hospital. Thereafter, immunosuppressive therapy was completely withdrawn, reduced or not modified. Thereafter, 9 patients were admitted and received off-label treatment with unspecified steroids, ceftriaxone, tocilizumab, azithromycin, piperacillin/tazobactam or were treated with remdesivir.
