Abstract
The objective of the present study was to isolate and identify endophytic fungi inhabiting various tissues (leaf, stem, bark, seed and petiole) of Jamun (Syzygium cumini L.Skeels). All the samples for the study were collected from four districts of Garhwal Mandal (Dehradun, Haridwar, Tehri Garhwal, and Pauri Garhwal), Uttarakhand. Standard surface sterilisation methods were used to process the samples, and endophytic fungi were isolated on appropriate culture media. Fungal isolates were identified using morphological and microscopic features. 50 isolates were collected on various plant tissues. Among 50 isolates, 19 isolates were non-sporulating (mycelia sterilia) and 31 were sporulating isolates (genera: Fusarium, Colletotrichum, Penicillium, Aspergillus, Chaetomium, Alternaria, Trichoderma, Paecilomyces, and Phomopsis). The colonisation frequency and isolation frequency of the highest percentages (72.92 and 14.58) were observed in the stem samples of Pauri Garhwal. The research shows the variations in the endophytic fungi that have been found in various tissues of Jamun in the Garhwal region.
