Introduction: Special Section on Displays in Medical Applications

The information-display research community has greatly advanced electronic imaging and display techniques to the point where it is now a question of selecting the most appropriate electronic-imaging solutions, including colorenhanced 2-D systems, wearable and head-mounted displays, as well as more-immersive 3-D image-rendering systems, rather than choosing between electronic or physical systems.
