Abstract

ABSTRACT The incorporation of technology is a major trend in education systems as it constitutes an efficient tool to access, organize and analyze different types of information, creating opportunities to enhance education. In this regard, higher education is trying to effectively integrate these technologies, among which cannot be ignored mobile devices. National data mentioned the use of laptops, smartphones and tablets is increasing among the population, situation that’s not different in the university classroom. As international experience with these devices are controversial results and there is little documentation on national context, this study aimed to identify the contributions and limitations of the use of tablets (Apple iPad 2) in 3 teachers and 13 students from a private university in Lima belonging to the fields of Anthropology and Chemistry. The perceptions and opinions of the participants were mainly collected through focus groups and interviews. The results of the experience reported various academic uses, both transverse and specific for the courses of study. Features as versatility and portability are highlighted to provide different tools for use in many fields. Among the difficulties are the need for more time for exploration and mastery of equipment by the participants, the cost of some applications and campus connectivity difficulties. The results allow to establish practical guidelines for integrating tablets in university classrooms. Contacto principal: [email protected]
