Human defensins as cancer biomarkers and antitumour molecules.

Current knowledge of defensins is summarized to discuss their role in tumour growth, tumour monitoring and cancer treatment, and alpha-defensins promote tumour cell growth or, at higher concentration, provoke cell death.
