From shelf arrangements to web searching: a journey through knowledge organization

A perspective on the development of the Organization of Knowledge and Information Retrieval practice and research over the past thirty to forty years, using a framework of five eras of OK and IR, using the following dimensions: users, information resources, indexing and searching languages, and information systems and interfaces.
