Abstract

In the scope of our ongoing research, we have delved into the emergence of the 5G network and conducted an exhaustive analysis of its anticipated impact, particularly concerning IT security. We posited that the prevailing values and attitudes of distinct generational cohorts are interconnected with their perceptions of IT security and their overall stance toward 5G networks. In addition to extracting insights from relevant secondary sources, we have enriched our findings with primary research data. Our primary investigation employed a quantitative research approach, utilizing a rigorously pre-tested standardized questionnaire as our research instrument. To compile our sample, we employed a snowball sampling technique, with our own active students forming the initial recruitment pool. This meticulous approach resulted in 341 completed and assessable questionnaires. The outcomes of our study have disclosed that knowledge about IT security threats and the perception of the role played by human factors in IT security exhibit distinct generational characteristics. Concurrently, it is noteworthy that the perceptions of 5G networks among households do not display significant differentiation, as a prevailing sense of uncertainty permeates all the generational groups we surveyed.
