TLDR

The results highlight that the use of AI-based efficiency benefits is a fundamental aspect of achieving cost savings and profitability in the process of undertaking supply chain activities, however, these benefits might be limited by implementation issues such as the expense of investment, lack of skilled workforce, and resistance to change.

Abstract

Purpose: This paper is aimed at discussing the economic implications of the AI-driven supply chains, particularly, the improvement of efficiency improvement, cost reduction, profitability enhancement, and implementation challenges. Professional experience and its impact on perceptions toward AI adoption in supply chain operations are also examined in the study.

Methodology: A cross-sectional, quantitative research approach was utilized in this study through a structured questionnaire. Respondent population was 320 supply chain participants in manufacturing, logistics, retailing and technology related institutions. The questionnaire was used to assess the extent of efficiency improvement, cost reduction, profitability improvement, organizational readiness, and implementation challenges on the basis of a five-point Likert Scale. The methods used in analyzing data were partnered by descriptive statistics, analysis of reliability, Pearson correlation, multiple regression analysis, and one-way ANOVA.

Findings: The findings reveal that the advantages of AI on the efficiency of the supply chain, reduction of cost and increasing profits are well agreed. Correlation analysis suggested that strong positive correlations existed between efficiency improvement, cost reduction, and profitability enhancement and the challenges involved in the implementation were negatively related to the benefits. Regression findings showed efficiency improvement and cost reduction are the strongest predictors of organizational performance. In addition, the findings of one-way ANOVA demonstrated that certain statistically significant differences existed among the perceptions of the various groups of professional experience.

Implications: The results highlight that the use of AI-based efficiency benefits is a fundamental aspect of achieving cost savings and profitability in the process of undertaking supply chain activities. However, these benefits might be limited by implementation issues such as the expense of investment, lack of skilled workforce, and resistance to change. These findings show that a priority should be to ensure that the application of technology can remain consistent with strategic planning, workforce development, and change management to bring an ideal economic value to an organization.

Originality / Value: The study provides a practical illustration of the impact of AI-powered supply chains on the economy, particularly in the context of the developing economies. The study is the combination of efficiency, cost, profitability, and implementation dilemmas in the context of one analytical tool, providing the managers, policymakers, and researchers with useful goals and aiming at optimizing the performance of the supply chain with the assistance of the artificial intelligence.
