Abstract

Genealogical research and visualization are key to comprehending complex familial relationships. This paper introduces “Dynastic Nexus,” an advanced genealogy platform designed to navigate complex hierarchies of relationships, perform network analysis, and dynamically visualize family trees. Users explore generations and diverse kinship routes, unraveling the complexities of extended family networks. Its user-centric interface imports genealogical data, extracts profiles, and provides a personalised approach by displaying the family tree from that particular individual's perspective, offering insights into one's heritage and allowing for a deeper understanding of their place within the family. Employing advanced graph algorithms, “Dynastic Nexus” conducts in-depth connection analysis, revealing intricate relationships like parent-child, spousal, and sibling connections. Unique links such as cousins, nieces, and aunts add depth to understanding extended family dynamics. We also include a case study of determining relationships in Indian families, which tend to be more complex due to various social, cultural, and historical factors. Different algorithms employ distinct traversal strategies, and choosing the right strategy can impact pathfinding efficiency. As the graph scales, making an informed algorithmic choice to avoid impractical and resource-intensive exhaustive searches and to navigate accurately through marriages, divorces, adoptions, and step-relationships becomes crucial. We conduct a comparative analysis of various graph algorithms for determining relationships between two nodes within a genealogical tree across an escalating series of synthesized graph data.
