Abstract

Two constitutive dimensions of the data are identified: as a sign and as a record. Semiosis is addressed beyond the symbolic sign and icons and indices are taken into account. Violence is articulated as a semiotic effect that feeds the fear of misunderstanding. Thinking about data as a record means thinking about tensions between experience and the record of experience, and the political dimension of the record, as it produces truth effects. From testimony and narration of violence and social trauma, the political implications of constructing the voice of victims are problematized, as well as the characteristics of registers and languages used to articulate them. Non-linearity, the overflow of traditional languages and the exploration of fragmented temporalities are identified as materialities with which to produce anchors to carry out data analysis about human rights violations, from a proposal of testimonial datafication of violence.
