Abstract

The construction industry is one of the largest industries in the global economy, yet it is also one of the least digitized. Although more and more articles are focusing on the challenges to digital transformation in the construction industry, it is still unclear how to address the challenges faced in the process. Therefore, this research adopts a systematic literature review (SLR), using Web of Science and Scopus as the search databases to systematically evaluate the literature related to digital transformation in the construction industry, and combining the technology-organization-environment (TOE) framework to summarize the challenges and critical success factors (CSF) of digitization, mapping the challenges with their corresponding CSF. This study is one of the first to link the challenges and CSF of digital transformation in the construction industry, which will help construction practitioners to have a comprehensive understanding of the barriers to digitization and to select critical success factors to barriers, thereby promoting the process of digital transformation in the construction industry.
