Abstract

In the majority of the world’s developing economies, like Nigeria, banks serve as the agent of economic transformation by pooling and channeling idle and unproductive surplus economic resources into productive investment through financial intermediation. They do this by providing a formal arrangement which facilitates the movement of economic resources from the surplus end (i.e. savers) to the deficit end (i.e. investors), where they are needed for investment. In other words, the efficiency of the banking sector is a significant factor for increasing the volume of investment in an economy (Yüksel, Mukhtarov & Mammadov, 2016). According to G.
