Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus has become one of the most dreadful disease in the present world. The severe complications of diabetic mellitus is foot ulcers. These ulcers need early detection and treatment to avoid amputation of feet. According to the statistics 13.4 % of world population is affected by this disease. This work signify that infrared technology as one of the best technique for monitoring and early detection of feet amputations. The main motive of this work is to build an Infrared imaging system using Smart phone (CATS60) for possible indication of ulcers. Further to this work a computer aided detection (CAD) system is also designed with MATLAB for suitable analysis and extraction of region of interest. The images acquired from the camera are processed and segmented using Otsu’s hybrid segmentation technique and support vector machine. The proposed work is carried out with three real time images of feet from different patients for finding the variation of skin temperature greater than 2.2∘C2.2^{\circ}\mathrm{C}, the segmented techniques are used in interpretation stage and also for identifying the exact location of the temperature increase. In addition to this the processed information is updated online using things speak platform for any serious treatments from the doctor at any time. The designed graphical user interface (GUI) is implemented with automatic threshold in performing number of iterations. The results are validated through image quality measures and histogram shape based methods. This abnormality analysis is provided in the form of risk factors as low and high risk. This work helps the doctor in diagnosis and better treatment of foot ulcers. However it is observed that early signs of ulceration and detection can be easily done by this work.
