Abstract
This research critically examines the rise of deepfake technology and its intersection with cybercrime, emphasizing how AI-powered manipulation tools are increasingly weaponized for malicious purposes. Through generative adversarial networks (GANs), autoencoders, and transformer-based architectures, attackers now create hyperrealistic synthetic media capable of deceiving both individuals and institutions. This study employs a mixed-methods approach, blending expert interviews with quantitative analysis of detection strategies and cyberattack trends. Real-world case studies are examined to illustrate deepfake deployment in identity fraud, financial scams, and geopolitical propaganda. The paper also scrutinizes legal voids, ethical dilemmas, and the growing need for global regulatory cooperation. Concluding with actionable recommendations-technical, social, and policy-based-the research offers a multi-layered understanding of AI-driven content manipulation and outlines strategies to bolster cybersecurity resilience.
