Abstract
This paper presents a comparison between Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM) and Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (SVPWM) techniques for controlling a Three-Phase Induction Motor (TPIM) drive powered by a Three-Phase Matrix Converter (TPMC) using the V/f control method. The TPMC directly converts a fixed-amplitude, fixedfrequency AC supply into a variable-amplitude, variablefrequency AC output without the need for intermediate energy storage. Both SPWM and SVPWM strategies are implemented to regulate the converter’s switching patterns, adjusting the modulation index and output frequency according to the V/f profile. The performance of the motor drive is evaluated in terms of torque, speed response, and total harmonic distortion (THD) using MATLAB/Simulink program simulations. Simulation results demonstrate the advantages and limitations of each modulation technique, providing insight into their effectiveness for TPIM drive applications.
