Abstract
This research examines the teaching of Fine Arts in rural secondary schools, with a specific focus on the College of Education, Akwanga, as a reference point. It investigates key challenges affecting the effective delivery of Fine Arts Education, including a shortage of qualified teachers, inadequate infrastructure, and limited access to instructional materials. Despite these constraints, the study highlights significant prospects, such as the potential to foster students’ creativity, promote cultural awareness, and encourage community-based artistic innovations. Using a mixed-method approach involving interviews, classroom observations, and surveys, the research gathers insights from educators, students, and stakeholders. The findings are aimed at informing policies and strategies that can strengthen Fine Arts instruction in rural Nigerian contexts. Ultimately, the study provides practical recommendations to address the identified challenges while leveraging existing opportunities to improve teaching quality, learning experiences, and the overall value of Fine Arts education in rural schools.
