Abstract
Key Points Question Are there disparities in Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) and Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS) membership based on student race and ethnicity, sex, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, and intersection of different identities? Findings In this cross-sectional study of 50 384 medical students, membership disparities were found in both honor societies, but disparities in AOA existed across more identities, were often larger, and increased with increasing numbers of marginalized identities. Disparities in GHHS membership sometimes favored the marginalized group and no cumulative disadvantage was seen for students with multiple marginalized identities. Meaning The findings of this study suggest marginalized students are better represented in GHHS than in AOA.
