TLDR

An innovative privacy coping theoretical framework is constructed that comprehensively analyzes an individual's behavior in privacy protection decisions from three dimensions: cognitive evaluation (personal data sensitivity), coping responses (intrinsic privacy fatigue and extrinsic social norms), and behavioral outcomes (privacy protection willingness).

Abstract

The convenience of the Internet of Everything coexists with the risk of privacy leakage, making the importance of privacy protection increasingly prominent. This study first delves into the categories and structures of personal data in the Internet of Everything environment, identifying 42 different types of personal data. Furthermore, this study constructs an innovative privacy coping theoretical framework that comprehensively analyzes an individual's behavior in privacy protection decisions from three dimensions: cognitive evaluation (personal data sensitivity), coping responses (intrinsic privacy fatigue and extrinsic social norms), and behavioral outcomes (privacy protection willingness). Based on a questionnaire survey of 1,921 Chinese citizens, this study examines the relationship between sensitivity to different data categories and privacy protection willingness in the IoE environment, as well as the potential mediating role of social norms and the moderating role of privacy fatigue.
