Abstract

AbstractThere are 24 National Law Universities (NLUs) in India and publishing journals in law and related subjects. The purpose of the present study is to assess the growth of legal scholarship and the status of inclusion/exclusion of NLU journals in indexing sources and the UGC CARE Reference list of quality journals. The data was collected from selected print indexing sources and the websites of the NLUs, UGC-CARE, and SCOPUS. The findings show a total of 84 journals are published by the NLUs. NALSAR Hyderabad is the leading publisher. None of the journals is indexed in 2 Indian print resources, 2.38% are indexed in SCOPUS and 19% are continuously listed and 5.95% are discontinued by the UGC-CARE. Most of the journals (84.52%) have online presence. It is suggested to establish a centralised scholarship repository as the U.S.-based Law Review Commons in India to increase the visibility and accessibility of scholarly publications.
