Achever Clausewitz, dix ans après

Résumé : L’ouvrage Achever Clausewitz renoue avec la découverte du premier livre de René Girard, qui portait sur le « désir triangulaire », bientôt nommé « désir mimétique », concept cardinal de son œuvre. C’est de cet éclairage rétro-spectif qu’il sera question dans cet article en rappelant l’analyse du ressenti-ment impliquée par la théorie girardienne, et en montrant comment cette pensée « s’emboîte » dans le concept clausewitzien du duel, sans omettre la dialectique de la montée aux extrêmes. Abstract : The book Battling to the End revives the discovery of René Girard’s (cid:2)rst book, which dealt with "triangular desire", soon to be called "mimetic desire", a cardinal concept in his work. It is this retrospective insight that will be discussed in this article, recalling the analysis of resentment implied by Girard’s theory, and showing how this thought "(cid:2)ts" into the Clausewitzian concept of duel, taking into account the dialectic of the escalation to extremes.
