Abstract
Introduction: Artificial intelligence (AI) is crucial for growing companies and industries, including biotechnology. This can significantly improve healthcare, agriculture, and environmental sustainability. Therefore, this paper assesses the SWOT analysis of employing artificial intelligence in biotechnology. Method: 1000 questionnaires were distributed face-to-face, via email, and online, with 812 (81.2%) correctly completed and used for our analysis. Respondents were primarily from the healthcare industry, government agencies, academic institutions, and biological firms. Results: The study found that the primary strengths linked with AI in biotechnology include greater process efficiency, improved data quality, enhanced drug development, automated laboratory chores, and individualized precision medicine, whereas its weaknesses include a lack of transparency, data quality bias, a costly initial setup cost, and ethical privacy problems. AI in biotechnology presents significant opportunities for advanced drug discovery, precision agriculture, personalized medicine growth, peer collaboration, and regulatory decision support, while threats include regulatory changes, job displacement, data security, bias and discrimination, and resistance to change. Conclusion: Incorporating AI into biotechnology has the potential to transform healthcare delivery, drug discovery and development, protein engineering, biomarker identification, personalized medicine, and synthetic biology; however, proper planning, training, and engagement with relevant stakeholders are required. Scientists and researchers can use AI to discover previously unknown ideas and discoveries.
