Abstract
The main function of a BMS (Battery Management System) is to monitor the battery(s) and device a strategy to control the battery operations so that the battery does not affect the battery pack cells. It serves to maximize the energy supplied to the vehicle. The BMS utilizes monitoring circuits to monitor important battery parameters such as voltage, current, and temperature for the charging and discharging of the battery. It provides crucial parameters such as power output, State of Charge (SoC) and State of Health (SoH) for precise conditions evaluation of batteries. Cell balancing is an important function of the BMS, which measures the voltage of each single cell or the parallel cells connected in parallel and equalizes the performance at any time. In addition, the system runs diagnostics to ensure safe operation. The BMS prevents several faults such as overcharged, over-discharged, over current, short circuit, and a temperature anomaly. This paper presents the new concept of the IoT-enabled BMS, which is called “SmartBMS.” Smart-BMS allows remote supervision, monitoring, and control of battery asset by employing the IoT technology.
