Abstract

Textual reviews of video games can offer important feedback for developers, aiding in gameplay refinement, community engagement, and market adaptation. By understanding such reviews, developers can create improved gaming experiences, fosters player retention, and informs strategic decisions. In this study, we took a step towards understanding player experiences of e-sports video games. Therefore, we have scraped overall 8,425 textual reviews of four e-sports games in total. These games were Counter-Strike 2, Apex Legends, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds and Dota 2. The results show that negative reviews were written around the same time as positive ones. They were also significantly longer than positive reviews. The most frequent words were also different between positive and negative reviews.
