Abstract

This paper presents the design and implementation of an AI-powered chat assistant specifically tailored for Yobe State University (YSU) students. The system addresses the critical challenge of information accessibility within the university environment, where students often struggle to efficiently obtain details about courses, registration procedures, and campus services through traditional channels. Leveraging Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), the assistant provides accurate, context-aware responses to student queries across multiple languages. Developed using Agile methodology, the system features a user-friendly web interface that integrates seamlessly with existing university infrastructure. Evaluation results demonstrate significant improvements in information access time and user satisfaction. Despite limitations in language accuracy and scalability, the AI chat assistant represents a substantial advancement in student support services at YSU, offering round-the-clock access to essential academic and administrative information.
