Abstract
With electric demand becoming increasingly dynamic and growing penetration of intermittent renewable energy resources(RESs) into the electric power system, along with advancements in intelligent sensing and metering, communication, and dispatching technologies, which enhances a transition in the architecture of classical distribution power systems towards multi-microgrids(MMGs), and result in an increasing challenge on managing the real-time supply and demand balance, improving stability and enhancing system resiliency. This paper identifies and reviews recent studies on the multi-microgrid energy management system (MMG-EMS), focusing on frameworks, architectures, communication technologies, and scheduling strategies of MMG-EMS. Findings from the overview can insight the prospect of MMG-EMS, which are vital to a reliable and scalable clean power system.
