Abstract

Online learning is an emerging concept in Philippine Education. It requires training for both teachers and students to achieve the effectiveness of using online learning platforms. The development of learning materials for online learning and distance education is still a topic of educational research today. Module development requires technological advancements, software proficiency and design knowledge to create modules that is understandable for the students. Due to the pandemic in 2020, the national education system of the Philippines navigated the use of remote and blended learning through the use of technological advancements. As a newly introduced concept, teachers and students in the Philippines encountered difficulty in navigating on how to effectively impose learning through online platforms. Philippines schools gradually implemented synchronous and asynchronous learning, based from the international studies to be effective in teaching students. However, some subjects such as Physical Education lack the systematic approach and the process is not yet fully understood as they lack the technological advancement and literacy awareness the promotes its effectivity in blended or distance learning. Module development for physical education curriculum alone is difficult to establish as there are only few researches that explores the proper systematic development of lessons and activities that will teach the students effectively. The researchers investigated the process of the preparation of physical education modules in terms of the considerations, content and challenges met by educators. Results highlight that the basis for the content development are the curriculum design released by the Department of Education regarding the competencies they have required. School policies are also included as for the content, activities and modules of the students in physical education. The most common challenges encountered are the time requirement for the work load and technological barriers required for innovation to online learning.
