Abstract
Metaphorical motion through newspaper articles: a proposal for teaching Italian to university students This teaching proposal has been created to work on the expression of metaphorical motion with Spanish-speaking students learning Italian as a foreign language at university. Within the framework of Cognitive Linguistics (CL), we have selected a series of authentic Italian newspaper articles as a teaching tool and we have designed a variety of activities to work on the topic of metaphorical motion, study the linguistic resources available in the language for expressing this motion, analyse in depth the underlying cognitive structures, and identify the similarities and differences between Italian and Spanish so that students can successfully face the challenges they may pose. The purpose of this teaching proposal is to raise linguistic awareness and promote critical thinking and creativity among students, to ultimately help them better understand the connection between language and cognition, and how speakers reflect, through language, their own view of the world we live in.
