Abstract
Geological CO₂ sequestration, when integrated with enhanced oil recovery (EOR), presents a dual opportunity to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions while improving hydrocarbon production efficiency. This review examines the deployment of proprietary CO₂ injection techniques aimed at maximizing oil yield and advancing national energy independence. The paper first outlines the fundamentals of geological CO₂ storage, including trapping mechanisms, reservoir selection, and geomechanical stability. It then evaluates innovative proprietary injection strategies such as advanced alternating gas-water cycles, nanofluid-assisted CO₂ flooding, and smart well completions that optimize miscibility, sweep efficiency, and reservoir contact. Emphasis is placed on how these technologies outperform conventional EOR methods through precise control of injection parameters, real-time monitoring, and data-driven reservoir modeling. The broader implications for energy independence are explored, highlighting the potential to boost domestic production, reduce reliance on imports, and strengthen economic resilience while meeting carbon reduction targets. Challenges such as high capital costs, long-term storage integrity, and regulatory complexities are addressed, alongside prospects for technological innovation and policy support. By integrating CO₂ sequestration with advanced EOR, this approach offers a strategic pathway toward sustainable energy development, environmental stewardship, and national energy security.
