“Puffing” in Sclerotinia sclerotiorum and S. minor

When Sclerotinia sclerotiorum apothecia “puff”, the race of discharge of ascospores increases rapidly to a maximum which is maintained briefly and then declines gradually; individual asci continue to dehisce for several seconds after the main discharge.
