What is the perception of the Hungarian quantum community regarding the future of quantum computing?

Quantum mechanics revolutionized our understanding of the microscopic world and laid the foundation for quantum computing. Quantum companies are developing quantum technologies, with IBM, Google, Microsoft, and Rigetti Computing being prominent players. Quantum communities foster collaboration among researchers, academics, and enthusiasts. In current paper we introduce the results of research conducted in two phases. In the first phase, the members of the Hungarian quantum community have been identified through document analysis and keyword searches. The second phase involved interviews with 14 individuals to understand their attitudes toward quantum computing and gain an insight into the current state of affairs and future prospects. According to the research data, the community’s focus remains on fundamental research, creating physical qubits, and investigating quantum phenomena, with limited practical use of quantum algorithms and less focus is dedicated to developing algorithms, despite the fact, that some respondents believed in quantum supremacy having been reached.
